Alex and Doug met in the summer of 2014 while working together. The two shy nerds slowly became friends, and eventually went on their first date.

Only two weeks later, Alex went back to school in Windsor putting them 5+ hours apart. But they already knew it would be worth every kilometer between them. So for the next two years, they travelled back and forth to see each other when they could.

Later, they moved into their first apartment together in Barrie to make their home.

On March 4, 2023 Doug took Alex to one of their favourite coffee shops in the downtown and went to the lakefront. Overlooking the Kempenfelt Bay, they sat under an art sculpture and admired the view of their home together. It was then that Doug asked Alex to marry him. Before she could say yes, Alex fell off the bench crying with happiness.

We are so happy to share that our venue overlooks the exact spot where we got engaged. No matter where life takes us, Barrie will always be our first home and where our love grew into the partnership it is today.
